In this tutorial, I'm going to show you how to create a Script Breakdown spreadsheet. A Script Breakdown spreadsheet allows a producer to plan out how many days are needed for principal photography. Sorting by locations and characters allows the producer to plan out what order each scene should be filmed in. Details from the Script Breakdown are later transferred to call sheets, shot lists, and the budget breakdown spreadsheets. Before creating the Script Breakdown, the screenplay should be complete. If any changes are made to the screenplay, then the Script Breakdown will need to be revised or recreated. To create the Script Breakdown, first open the Script Breakdown template and your screenplay. You can download the Script Breakdown template and the completed spreadsheet example from.filmhandbook.com. In this screenplay, there are 32 scene headings. To quickly transfer the scene headings to the scene number, area, and scene description columns, copy the entire screenplay. Then, paste the screenplay into the scene description column. Now, select column C, go to Data, Sort, click Continue with the current selection, and press Sort. This will group all the scene descriptions together. Deleting the text above and below your scene headings will remove the action, character, dialogue, and other elements from your screenplay, leaving only the scene headings. The scene numbers 1 through 9 do not sort in order since their text fields and not numbers, so a zero can be added in front of these scene numbers. Adding zeroes will allow the scene headings to be sorted in numerical order, and will also allow the scene headings to be divided into three columns using the Text to Columns feature.
